Fifty-five years after the passage of the Voting Rights Act, the right to vote in America is once again under serious threat. Join us this fall for a campus-wide conversation around voting, voting rights, and voter suppression.

The Right to Vote Series is sponsored by the Center for Civic Leadership, the Moody Center for the Arts, and the Politics, Law and Social Thought program, with support from the Humanities Research Center.

Jehmu Greene is a Texan, activist, and political commentator who brings the experience of a former President of Rock the Vote, the voice of a child of immigrants, and the insight of a Political Analyst at FOX News to the pressing issue of voter rights and mobilization.

Join us for a showing of Suppressed 2020: The Fight to Vote. Highlighting the personal accounts of voters in the 2018 midterm election in Georgia, this documentary directed by Robert Greenwald and featuring Stacey Abrams highlights voter suppression tactics that have been used for decades, and will continue to affect our elections unless we take action to change it.


The film will be introduced by student leaders and include statements from Houston based community organizations who will share how their organizations work to support voter rights and opportunities for students to get involved!
